Microservices are essential to achieving business agility, but they also create new complexities. When you decompose your application into individual microservices, you lose your monolithic application equivalent. So how do you shift your pipeline practices such as change request tracking, testing, value stream management, release automation and audit to support a microservices architecture? You must re-discover your application and application versions over time.
Join me at cdCon on Wednesday, October 7 at 11:05 AM PT for a review of what configuration management means at a microservice and application level. While we often hear about configuration management and observability as it relates to the configuration of a Kubernetes cluster, we seldom hear how to manage microservice deployment configurations and the application versions they create. In monolithic development, we complete configuration management at the all-important continuous integration step. That is the point where we pull together our application package by compiling, linking and then giving it a build version to make that package unique. Seldom is the package ever re-built before it is deployed to test or production. All that important work disappears with microservices, and your application linking is done at runtime, not build time.
I will explore the new configuration management challenge that is the result of a microservice implementation. In a time of massive disruption in software development, it is important to identify traditional practices that are core to delivering value to your end-users. Configuration management is one of those core principles that are critical to the implementation and ongoing maintenance of a microservice architecture. This session will cover how modern tooling around the CD pipeline addresses the new configuration management problem and teach attendees how to master configuration management in a microservices architecture.
And bring your questions and comments. We are all sorting out this new architecture together. I will be available for questions and comments after the talk. Your experience and opinion are super important. Let us all hear your journey into this new modern architecture.
