Who are you?
I’m a software engineer working on Screwdriver.cd at Yahoo. I’ve been at this company my entire career and even interned twice, so I’m a bit of a seasoned Yahooligan.
What are your hobbies?
In my spare time I like reading fantasy/sci-fi books, playing (mostly beach) volleyball, and learning Muay Thai. Occasionally, I like to dabble in arts and crafts.
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
When I was in kindergarten we had to write a book about what we wanted to be when we grew up. I said I wanted to be a mom. I wanted two sets of twins and I named them after my best friends at the time. And I went on describing my current lifestyle down to my mom’s (then) new green Toyota Sienna. My second job choice was a marine biologist because sea turtles are my favorite animal.
What led you to a career in tech?
I started out as a bioengineering major in college and took a couple coding courses as a requirement. When I realized I didn’t really enjoy the lifestyle working in a science lab, I ended up switching to the more collaborative field of Computer Science.
Do you remember your first open source contribution?
I was on a team at school working on a product called “We Have We Need”. It was a tool meant to optimize collaboration between nonprofits and NGOs in crisis zones. If they managed and shared their inventories on this website, they could more easily provide and ask for help. My first contribution was a CSS change.
How did you get involved in the Continuous Delivery Foundation?
When I first worked on Screwdriver, it was an internal product. We eventually decided the best thing to do was open source it and heard about how CDF is a great community for collaboration and discussion of similar tools.
What is your #1 top tip for getting involved in the community?
Join the Slack channels or try out Screwdriver locally and keep an eye on issues that might be interesting to work on.
Where can we find you?
I’m on GitHub and in Screwdriver’s open source Slack.
