Who are you?

I’m Nikunj Doshi a Solutions Consultant and Cloud DevOps engineer focused on cloud-native development, DevOps practices, and building scalable distributed systems. My work revolves around designing end-to-end systems from APIs and microservices to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.

I’ve spent the last few years working across technologies like Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins, Argo CD Terraform, and cloud technologies such as AWS, GCP, Azure, and Alibaba Cloud, with a strong emphasis on observability, performance, and reliability. I really enjoy solving complex system design challenges and continuously improving how software is built, tested, and deployed.

Beyond the technical side, I care deeply about enabling teams, whether that’s simplifying workflows, improving developer experience, or promoting best practices in Continuous Delivery. Open source and community-driven collaboration play a big role in how I learn and grow.

Apart from that, I like to contribute to open source projects and communities. Also involved in research projects and have got my research papers published in renowned and esteemed tech and scientific journals. I like to mentor students and early stage professionals to help them navigate industry challenges and succeed in their career.

I’m also a thought leader, entrepreneur and community harbinger. He empowers people and values being part of a community where people share, learn, and grow together because strong collaboration is what truly moves the ecosystem forward.

Your hobbies?

I enjoy traveling and exploring new places, along with photography. I also like staying active through sports and outdoor walks. On the quieter side, I spend time reading books from genres of tech, fiction, spirituality, comedy, etc. Also, I like to write blogs on cloud technologies, and emerging trends in AI and distributed systems and follow the news around that. Apart from that, I like to do networking and socializing with people.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

When I was a kid, I always wanted to be a sports person and a celebrity. I used to play sports like soccer and cricket during middle school and I was the captain in my school. Over time, that curiosity naturally shifted toward computers, software and systems and then my career got pivoted in tech as starting high school and I grew up.

What led you to a career in tech?

It started with curiosity about how systems work under the hood during my high school. As I got more exposure, I became interested not just in writing code, but in how software is delivered reliably at scale in my sophomore year and began working on personal projects. That’s what pulled me into DevOps, platform engineering, and Continuous Delivery later on in my career.

Do you remember your first open source contribution?

Yes, when I was working as an intern at Red Hat, I made my first contribution around improving OpenShift UI and fixing small issues. It showed me that open source isn’t just about large code contributions; even small improvements can make a meaningful impact. I was excited and still can’t forget that moment.

How did you get involved in the Continuous Delivery Foundation?

At work and with my passion for open source technologies I’ve always thought of joining the CDF Foundation. I had met ambassadors in conferences, and after talking with them, my curiosity was doubled. Through my work with CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native tooling, I naturally gravitated toward the Continuous Delivery ecosystem. The foundation stood out as a place where practitioners collaborate on real-world problems, so getting involved felt like a natural step.

What’s your favourite thing/project/tech to work on?

I enjoy working on systems that bring together multiple layers of application code, infrastructure, and delivery pipelines. Projects involving Kubernetes, microservices, observability, CI/CD (like tracing and metrics), and automation are especially exciting to me. Currently, I’m contributing to Jenkins, Argo CD, and OpenShift, OpenStack and other projects. Some of my professional projects have been impeccable, working for enterprises and big tech companies. One major project where I contributed significantly was for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 project.

Tell us about the thing you’re most proud of and why?

I’m most proud of designing and implementing end-to-end systems that improved reliability and reduced deployment friction. For example, working on microservices architectures with proper CI/CD, monitoring, and messaging systems helped teams move faster while maintaining stability. Seeing those improvements translate into real impact is what motivates me and for that I’ve received various recognitions and accreditations from the industry leaders.

What is the best connection you’ve made through open source?

The most valuable connections have been with engineers who are deeply passionate about solving real-world problems and sharing knowledge openly. These interactions often lead to learning opportunities that go far beyond code. I got to meet with tech leaders of top-notch tech companies, such as Red Hat, VMware, IBM, etc.

What is your #1 tip for getting involved in the community?

Start small but stay consistent. Whether it’s contributing to documentation, reviewing PRs, or participating in discussions, consistency matters more than the size of your contributions.

What’s your favourite open source conference?

Open Source Summit, cdCon, KubeCon + CloudNativeCon are one of the best places to learn, connect with the community, and stay up to date with cloud-native and Continuous Delivery trends. As a speaker at multiple conferences, I think the magnitude of these conferences and the quality of conference attendees is unmatchable.
