Why Be a Member of an Open Source Foundation?

By October 9, 2025Blog, Staff

Open source foundations are a safe place for technologies to live. We maintain and protect them so that the rest of the companies can focus on collaboration and innovation.

CD Foundation hosts Continuous Delivery and Continuous Integration projects. You probably know our founding projects, Jenkins, Spinnaker, and Tekton, but we’re also improving interoperability with CDEvents, security with Ortelius, and more.

What’s great is that most companies use open source software. What’s unfortunate is that they don’t support the foundations that make their success possible.

Did you know? Tens of thousands of companies use Jenkins. Your company probably does.

Support Open Source

Help us maintain our projects and keep them secure so you can innovate. If you’re getting a real benefit from the work that’s being done, support that work.

Become a CD Foundation Member

✉️ We created a sample email to help you convince your boss to become a member.

*If your company is a member of the Linux Foundation, supporting the CDF could be as little as $2,500 for End Users and $5,000 for General Users (the fee is based on company size. View fees).

Hear from our Community

We hosted a discussion with some of our members and contributors to find out why they contribute their time and money to the Foundation. Watch it

Speakers:

  • Dadisi Sanyika, CDF Governing Board Chair, Apple
  • Gerard McMahon, Fidelity Investments
  • Lori Lorusso, Rust Foundation
  • Mark Waite, CloudBees, Jenkins Maintainer
  • Melissa McKay, writer/author, CDF Contributor

Working Together

We recently signed an open letter along with many other Foundations — Open Infrastructure is Not Free: A Joint Statement on Sustainable Stewardship.

Joining the CD Foundation (and other Foundations your company benefit from) is one way to contribute to the health and sustainability of open source, including the infrastructure that supports its use.
