AWS Joins Continuous Delivery Foundation as Premier Member

By June 23, 2021Announcement, Blog

Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) has joined the CDF as a Premier member. Welcome! As part of membership, Peder Ulander, Director, AWS Solutions Marketing, will join CDF’s Governing Board.

From AWS blog: AWS is doubling down on improving the open source continuous delivery experience for our customers

AWS has been contributing to a key continuous delivery technology component, Spinnaker, since 2018. Spinnaker, a cloud-based continuous delivery platform for releasing software changes rapidly and reliably, is a CD Foundation Founding Project. Spinnaker makes it easier for developers to focus on writing code without having to worry about the underlying cloud infrastructure. It integrates with Jenkins, also a CD Foundation Founding Project, and other popular build tools. AWS also contributes significantly to the Jenkins project, in particular by providing key infrastructure for the project to run at scale.

“We are very pleased to welcome AWS to the CD Foundation. AWS will provide leadership and continued technical contributions that will strongly benefit the Spinnaker community as well as the larger continuous delivery ecosystem worldwide. It is critical that key tools and components are open source and are governed and developed in a vendor-neutral arena,” said Tracy Miranda, Continuous Delivery Foundation Executive Director. “AWS joining the CDF shows that the path forward for open source development of continuous delivery tools and services is brighter than ever.”

Spinnaker provides the flexibility to deploy applications on virtual machines running in the cloud or in container platforms, such as Amazon ECS or Kubernetes. AWS customers like CDF member Capital One are using Spinnaker to deploy applications.
